NWA fires third contractor
THE National Works Agency (NWA) has fired another of its contractors, Pord Construction & General Enterprise Company Limited, claiming that it had performed poorly.
This is the third contract terminated by the NWA in recent times as that agency intensifies efforts to get some of its contractors to perform satisfactorily.
The July 4, 2002 contract, which was issued under the Kingston Metropolitan Region Road Patching Programme for Northwest 2, was terminated on January 14.
According to the NWA’s chief executive officer, Ivan Anderson, only 30 per cent of the work had been done, even though “100 per cent of the time had elapsed”.
The move to terminate the contract, Anderson said, came after the contractor had failed “to sufficiently improve his performance on the job after being placed on a 14-day notice”.
According to Anderson, the contractor, after receiving the warning letter, had offered no satisfactory or reasonable explanation for his inability to perform the contract.
The remaining works under this contract are now being shared among contractors whom the “NWA considers to be working well”.
Meanwhile, Anderson has warned that it will not be business as usual at the NWA as contractors are expected to perform their contracts satisfactorily according to the agreement.
