Six die violently over Christmas
THE police reported yesterday that six people died violently over the two-day Christmas/Boxing Day holiday.
Three people were also arrested and charged for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act while an American national was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Negril, Westmoreland.
Among those killed was 32 year-old Conrad Levy, alias “Phantom Killer”, who was killed in a gun battle with members of the security forces in Allman Town, Kingston at about 2:00 am Christmas morning. (See related story on Page 4).
A few hours afterwards at around 5:30 am, Errol Isaacs, a 28 year-old resident of Bog Walk, St Catherine was shot. Isaacs was on Wonder Lane in the Bog Walk area when a Toyota Corolla motor car drove up and a man alighted and fired shots all over Isaacs’ body. Isaacs ran and collapsed in a gully a few metres away before dying. Seven spent shells were recovered from the scene by the Bog Walk police who are investigating.
In Lowe River, Trelawny, a dispute between two men left 45 year-old Linford Johnson of Kingston dead. Johnson was stabbed in the chest and pronounced dead at the Percy Junor Hospital. The police were last night searching for a man known as Kevin Beckford of Lowe River in connection with the murder.
George Miller, 50, also known as “Zeeboy” was stabbed to death at around 8:00 pm Christmas night after he was involved in a dispute with another man in Lott district, Trelawny. Miller was stabbed in the throat. Winston Ricketts, 47, has been arrested and charged with the murder.
Yesterday (Boxing Day) Oniel Simpson, 39, also called “Tunki”, was shot dead in the Grants Pen area of Kingston.
The Constabulary Communication Network reported that at approximately 11:15 am, the police were called to a scene along Grants Pen Avenue after residents reported hearing gunshots. When they arrived Simpson was seen lying in a pool of blood.
The police also reported that Michael Shanahan of Wisconsin in the USA died from injuries he received Christmas Day after he was hit from his bicycle by a silver Mitsubishi Gallant motor car. Shanahan, 47, died while undergoing treatment at the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital.
Meanwhile, three persons were held on drug-related charges on Christmas Day.
Darren Anglin of Birmingham, England and Kemmel Bandie of Annotto Bay, St Mary were both held while trying to export ganja. Anglin was held at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay while Bandie was held at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.
Devon Boucher of Milk River in Clarendon was also held on Christmas Day after he attempted to export cocaine. Boucher, 31, was about to board a flight to London at the Norman Manley International Airport when a sniffer dog alerted the police to drugs. Nineteen pounds of the drug were found in his luggage.
