CC Old Boys help with security wall fund
CORNWALL College on Wednesday received an additional US$2,000 from the North American chapter of the school’s Old Boys’ Association.
The money will go towards the continued construction of what headmaster Croswell Taylor described as a “much needed” security wall around the campus.
The security wall has been under construction for some time now, following the first installment of funds from the North American-based alumni. According to the association’s outgoing local president, Patrick Reid, the chapter will be making future donations to the project.
Reid presented the almost J$100,000 to Taylor during a brief ceremony at the school this week. The money represents proceeds from last May’s fund-raising golf tournament and awards ceremony staged in Montego Bay by the North American alumni.
The tournament was held on the Ritz Carlton Rose Hall Resort’s White Witch 18-hole championship course and the awards function was held at the Montego Bay Yacht Club.
Three outstanding Cornwall College past students — Canadian businessman Denham Jolly; Montego Bay physiotherapist Lloyd Young; and retired Montego Bay businessman Cecil Agate — were honoured at the awards ceremony.
Taylor, who welcomed the donation Wednesday, said he was delighted to receive the funds, and pointed out that security at the school “has been of major concern”. And as he thanked the former students for making the money available, he singled out doctors Bert McGann and Cecil Aird of the US, and Montego Bay businessman Carlton Chin for special recognition.
According to Taylor, he hopes this latest contribution will generate more donations towards the construction of the security wall.
