Negril fisherman’s throat slashed
WHILE many Jamaicans were busy celebrating the island’s 40 years of Independence Tuesday, Negril fishermen were grappling with the reality of the brutal slaying of one of their own, Detton Wint.
Wint, 45, was found early Tuesday inside his cabin on the bank of the Negril River with his throat slashed and his head hanging from the back of his neck.
Yesterday, police said that two men, one of whom was allegedly seen running from the cabin at about 7:15 am, have been taken into custody in connection with the murder.
The second suspect is 20 years old and he was reportedly engaged in a fight with Wint on Monday night.
However, his mother says that he is not guilty of the crime.
“My son was held under suspicion because he was in a fight with the man the night before,” she said. “But we live about two miles from where it (the murder) happened and for him to come back and kill the man, someone would have to see him because someone is living where the person got killed.”
Another fisherman, who identified himself only as Indian, said it was a shame that no one had any information on the murder.
“Right now, dem thing yah nuh right fi a man come look inna the camp and see a man dead and no one nuh know a who,” he said.
