Ganja plants destroyed
Two acres of fully grown ganja plants and a pound of cured ganja were destroyed during a police operation in St Elizabeth Wednesday morning.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported that between 7:00 am and 9:00 am Wednesday, an operation was carried out in the hilly terrain of St Elizabeth by members of the Area Three Narcotics and St Elizabeth Police.
During the operation the ganja plants and the pound of ganja were discovered in the New Orland area. The plants and the drug were subsequently burnt. No one was arrested.
Hanover man on cocaine rap
A 42 year-old man was Wednesday arrested for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act after he was held at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James last Friday.
The man, Lorenzo Green, of Look-Out in Hanover, has been charged with possession of, dealing in and taking steps to export cocaine.
The CCN said that at about 10:55 pm, last Friday, Green reportedly checked in to board a flight to London. His actions, the police claimed, reportedly aroused the suspicion of narcotics agents and he was interviewed. He was suspected of ingesting cocaine and was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he passed out 94 cocaine pellets weighing just under a kilogram. He is scheduled to appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court today.
‘Popsie’ shot dead
A 20 year-old man was shot dead by unknown assailant(s) on Barbados Road, Kingston 11 Wednesday night, the police reported yesterday.
He has been identified as Leandro Young, otherwise called “Popsie” of Antigua Path, Kingston 11.
The CCN reported that at about 9:30 pm, residents reported hearing explosions and summoned the police. Young’s body was found lying in a pool of blood on Barbados Road with gunshot wounds to the chest and back. Eight 9mm spent shells were found at the scene.
No motive for the killing has yet been established by the Olympic Gardens Police who are investigating.
