Case against woman dismissed as cops fail to show
A woman who was charged with assaulting a police officer, malicious destruction of property and obstructing and resisting arrest, had the charges against her dismissed on Wednesday for want of prosecution.
Dolly Daley had charges filed against her by two policemen from the Constant Spring Police Station — Corporal Samuel Walker and Constable Leon Hall.
However, both officers failed to appear when the case was called up in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s court.
The woman was represented by Peter Champagni, who told the court that his client had been facing the court since September 28 last year and that the police officers had been tardy in their attendance. He requested that the charges against his client be dismissed.
Presiding magistrate, Elaine Honeywell subsequently ruled the case against Daley be dismissed, saying it was unfair for the accused woman to be attending court on so many occasions and the officers, who were the complainants, failed to show. There was no choice but to dismiss the case, RM Honeywell said.
Daley was accused of destroying Corporal Walker’s Bulova watch and assaulting Constable Hall while they were carrying out their duties in September last year.
