Teenager on cocaine charge
An eighteen year-old woman was formally charged for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act, Thursday after she was detained by narcotics agents at the Norman Manley International Airport last Tuesday.
Charged with possession of, dealing in and attempting to export cocaine is Scarene Gordon of Prospect district, New Boscobel, Manchester.
The police said that at about 4:00 pm on Tuesday, July 16, Gordon was about to board a flight when her actions ‘aroused the suspicions of narcotics agents’. She was stopped and interviewed during which she admitted that she had ingested cocaine.
Gordon was subsequently detained and taken to the Kingston Public Hospital. Between last Tuesday and yesterday she passed out 67 pellets of cocaine weighing less than one kilogramme.
She was consequently charged.
Body found with gunshot wounds in Charlemount
The body of a 27 year-old man, Esric Bennett, was found with gunshot wounds at his home in Cashew Way, Charlemount, St Catherine on Thursday.
According to the police, at about 11:00 am, residents reportedly saw Bennett’s body with gunshot wounds in his backyard. The police were summoned and on close inspection, his body was found to have gunshot wounds to the left shoulder and buttock.
The Linstead police who are investigating have not yet established a motive for this killing.
Police launch search for escapee
The St Ann police have launched a search for a prisoner who escaped custody whilst under police guard at the St Ann’s Bay Hospital Thursday.
On the run is 30 year-old Oliver Meghie of Bucksfield, Ocho Rios, St Ann. At the time of his escape he was awaiting trial on charges of burglary, shop breaking and larceny.
The police said that at about 3:30 am, Meghie was in hospital under police guard when he reportedly jumped through an open window and escaped. He is about 172 centimeters (5ft 8 in.) tall, medium built and was wearing black shorts.
