Profile on Franklyn Witter
WITH talk of a general election in the air, the Jamaica Observer’s Western Bureau will help you get to know the candidates in this part of the island. Who are the candidates and why should you vote for them?
This week, meet the Jamaica Labour Party’s Franklyn Witter.
Name: Franklyn Robert Witter
Date of Birth: June 14, 1959
Constituency: South-East St Elizabeth
Franklyn Witter attended the Lititz All-Age, Junction Secondary School and Beaumont Comprehensive College before going on to pursue a diploma in education at Church Teacher’s College.
The former teacher at the Junction High and Secondary schools is now the chief executive officer for Southern Plaza in Lititz. He is an avid lover of cricket and dominoes. He is married and has three children.
He now answers the question “Why should I vote for you”?
“My mission is to provide meaningful representation to the people of South-East St Elizabeth through community participation. This I have been pursuing for the past 20 years and the following are some of my achievements:
* the establishment and continued servicing of over 30 youth and community clubs;
* sponsoring of basic schools in the communities of Gazeland, Stephen Run, Berlin and Cheapside;
* initiating community projects such as the New Building Bammy Factory, Essex Valley Water Supply and the construction of the Cheapside Basic School.
It is my conviction that I will be better able to continue to enhance my involvement in these and other activities, such as rebuilding the agricultural sector in what was once known as the bread basket of Jamaica.”
The JLP candidate said, if elected, he also plans to improve the supply of piped water in the constituency, better road conditions, improved health care and the creation of much-needed jobs.
“These are just some of the reasons why a vote for Franklyn Witter in the next general election would make a difference in improving the lives of the people in South-East St Elizabeth,” Witter argued.
