Plans advanced for Emancipation Jubilee
SEVILLE, St Ann — Plans are well advanced for the annual staging of ‘Emancipation Jubilee 2002’ at the Seville Heritage Park, in St Ann, on Wednesday, July 31.
Emancipation Jubilee, a Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT) event, is aimed at educating the nation about the important lessons from slavery and the emancipation experiences.
Seville Heritage Park operations manager, Joan Seagears, said the celebration was being organised to honour the contribution of the country’s African ancestors toward the development of the Jamaican society.
Seagears said this year, “we will again showcase with an exciting, colourful and historic backdrop of the 1745 Great House, the cultural legacies of our African ancestors in the performing and culinary arts”.
