700 for credit union confab
OVER 700 delegates are expected to attend next week’s Caribbean Confederation of Credit Union’s convention and annual general meeting at the Jamaica Grande Hotel in Ocho Rios.
The week-long conference will provide a forum at which the development of the credit union movement within the region will be mapped, through a combination of plenary sessions and workshops consisting of smaller groups.
Hosted by the Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League, the convention will be officially opened by Jamaica’s governor-general, Sir Howard Cooke, on July 21 at 5:00 pm. The organisers say that 18 countries are expected to be represented, and that their flags will be raised during the opening ceremony. Officials from St Ann — the host parish — have been invited; so too, members of the diplomatic corps and executives of the Bank of Jamaica.
The CCC U which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year will, as part of the convention, honour several individuals and organisations which have contributed to its development.
The confederation was established on August 17, 1972 in Dominica with a mandate to develop the credit union movement throughout the region.
