Boy, 15, faces murder charge next Thursday
A fifteen-year-old boy, who has been charged with fatally shooting his sister in the mouth, is to answer murder charges in the Montego Bay juvenile court next Thursday.
The teen pleaded not guilty on his first court appearance this week and has been remanded in custody at the St James Divisional Police Headquarters in Catherine Hall.
His 19 year-old sister, Latoya “Munchie” Murray, from Easy Street in the Glendevon section of the city, died on Monday. The pregnant teen was the mother of a 14 month-old son.
According to family members, Latoya’s brother brought the gun inside the house to show his sister, who was eating an orange in the bedroom at the time. They told the Observer that during the display, the gun went off, and the bullet entered Latoya’s mouth.
The young mother then ran from the bedroom through the living-room area and out to the verandah before she collapsed. She died in her father in law, Roy Atkinson’s arms at 12:26 pm.
Her brother initially fled the scene but turned himself in to the police, without the weapon, a day later. He has also been charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
