Alleged robbers shot dead
TWO men were shot dead by the owner of a petrol station in Whitehouse, Westmoreland during an alleged robbery attempt at the station on Friday night.
The 63 year-old owner of the station reported that he was closing his business place in the Whitehouse Square when he was accosted by a man armed with a knife.
The service station owner brandished his Smith and Wesson firearm and they wrestled. During the tussle the petrol station owner said he managed to discharge a shot.
The would-be robber, he said, ran off shouting for his accomplice who was apparently lurking in the shadows. More shots were fired and both men were later found with gunshot wounds.
One of the men has since been identified only as “Bigga”.
The petrol station owner, who received knife cuts on the back of his hand during the struggle, said he had been robbed three times in the last six months.
The death of the alleged robbers was being cheered in the community.
“My shop was broken into two times and I am glad that they are dead,” one woman told the Observer.
Said another: “I operate a shop and I have to walk late at nights so they could attack me too, so I am happy.”
