No new info on suspected drug boat
THE police yesterday still had no new information about the 33-foot speed boat that was off the Port Antonio coast last week Tuesday morning.
“We have nothing new as yet,” a police spokesman told the Observer yesterday.
The boat, named Eduardona, was found capsised about 40 miles north-east of Port Antonio in the vicinity of Blue Lagoon by fishermen on their way home.
Observer sources said the fishermen almost bumped into the boat, which was fitted with two V7 250 horsepower engines.
The fishermen pulled the boat in at about 8:00 am and brought it to the attention of the Port Antonio police.
Constable Barrington Martin of the Port Antonio Marine Police said they took possession of the boat at about 8:30 am from the Boundbrook wharf.
The narcotics police, who checked the boat, found no contraband or registration. However, they believe it was used to transport illegal drugs.
Port Antonio has, in the recent past, been used as a drop-off point for drug traffickers moving narcotics from Central and South America to the United States.
