Rotary Club working for Hanover
WESTERN BUREAU: The Rotary Club of Lucea will, within the next few days, distribute 50 computers to a number of schools in Hanover as part of its community outreach project.
Vice-president elect, Theo Chambers, told the Observer that the computers were acquired from Stanley Clarke, a Canadian businessman who was born in the parish of Hanover.
“Mr Clarke visited the island recently and after discussions with members of the Rotary Club decided to get the computers in Canada for the schools,” Chambers said.
He added that the computers would greatly assist the students in the parish to become computer literate.
The equipment will be delivered to high, primary and basic schools.
Among the schools slated to benefit from the gift are Rusea’s High, Esher and Lucea Primary and the Chamber’s Pen and Dias Primary Schools.
Theo’s Theory Limited, a marketing and management company, will be responsible for the maintenance of the computers.
Chambers also disclosed that within another few months, the Rotary Club was expected to get 200 more computers for distribution to other schools and non-profit organisations in the parish.
“Those computers have already been sourced in Canada and we are now looking for sponsors to have them shipped to us,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Lucea General Hospital will next week receive medical supplies and equipment valued at thousands of dollars from the Lucea Rotary Club. The items to be presented to the institution include seven wheelchairs, electrocardiogram (ECG) monitors, dental sterilisers, chairs, toaster ovens and kettles.
