No leads in $100-million drug find
WESTERN BUREAU — Wednesday’s interrogation of five SuperClubs employees, who were onboard the resort chain’s yacht on Tuesday when $100 million worth of hash oil was found onboard, has so far not helped the Area One Narcotics police to break the case.
Constabulary Communications Network (CCN) liaison officer for Westmoreland, Sergeant Alva Douglas, told the Observer yesterday that the police have failed to hold anyone culpable in connection with the seizure.
At about 8:00 pm Tuesday, SuperClubs employees became suspicious of findings on the boat during a routine security check in preparation for a trip to Canada today for dry-docking. They alerted the police who found more than 1,000 pounds of hash oil concealed on the vessel.
The drug was found on the lower deck of the yacht, which was docked off the coast of the Grand Lido Negril resort.
The hash oil was packed in 11 plastic kegs, each weighing 95 pounds and submerged in the boat’s water tank.
Shortly after the seizure the police questioned the five crew members of the yacht.
