Johnnie Cochran for St Ann Chamber’s 45th anniversary awards
FAMED American defence attorney, Johnnie Cochran and his wife, Dale, will be in Jamaica from June 8-11, 2002, as guests of the St Ann Chamber of Commerce. The highlight of his three-day visit will include an address to the St Ann Chamber of Commerce and a visit to Sandals Ocho Rios’ adopted school, Exchange All-Age. He will also be a special guest at the Ocho Rios Jazz Festival.
The St Ann Chamber of Commerce’s awards ceremony, to mark its 45th anniversary, will be held at Beaches Grande Sport on Saturday, June 8, and will honour persons who have served the parish of St Ann, the nation and the St Ann Chamber.
Director of the St Ann Chamber of Commerce, Jeanne Dixon says the chamber’s 45th year should be recognised as a special milestone as it has been able to accomplish a lot over the years through its members. She added that the chamber has a proud record of representing the parish of St Ann at various levels of the society. “The chamber has also been actively involved in lobbying for greater accountability for persons taking public office,” noted Dixon.
At the awards ceremony, retired nurse, Marjorie Robinson will receive an award for distinguished community service, retired regional manager of the local JTB office, Iva Walters will receive the award for tourism and retired educator, Winnifred Young-Shue (JP) will receive the education award. The Citizen’s Award will go to Top Cop, Edgar Brown, while principal scientific officer of the Discovery Marine Lab, Peter Gayle will receivethe Environment Award. Franklyn McKnight of the North Coast Times will be the recipient of the Media Award.
A special Corporate award will be presented to managing director of Rovenne Limited, Paul Ennevor, for his pioneering contribution to the development of St Ann.
