Suspected suicide
The body of 44 year-old fisherman, Gary Hutchinson, otherwise called “Trojan” of the Greenwich Town fishing beach in Kingston, was yesterday found hanging by a length of rope from a tree on the beach.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported that at about 6:45 am, residents in the area discovered Hutchinson’s body hanging from the tree and summoned the police. The body was removed to the morgue for post mortem.
The Hunts Bay police, who are investigating, said that family members reported that over the past week Hutchinson has been suffering from depression.
St Mary house destroyed by Fire
A three-apartment concrete house was destroyed by fire in the Coombs Town district, Gayle, St Mary yesterday morning.
The CCN said that the occupants of the house reportedly retired to bed leaving a lit candle in one of the rooms.
At about 2:00 am, one of the occupants was awakened to find one of the rooms on fire. The fire quickly spread engulfing the building. An alarm was raised and one unit from the Port Maria Fire Department carried out cooling down operations. No one was injured in the blaze. Loss is estimated at $2 million.
The police said the house was not insured.
Man shot, injured by guard in Portmore
A 25 year-old man who allegedly pointed a firearm at a security guard was shot and injured at the Portmore Mall in St Catherine on Sunday. A firearm was taken from the injured man following the incident.
The name of the injured man is being withheld, as he is to face an identification parade.
According to the CCN, at about 2:10 pm, two men and a woman entered a store in the Portmore Mall. Their actions aroused the suspicion of a security guard who called out to them. One of the men reportedly pulled a firearm and was shot by the guard. The injured man ran from the store and brandished the gun at a taxi operator demanding to be taken to hospital. The taxi operator managed to wrestle the weapon from him and drove off leaving him stranded.
He was subsequently apprehended by the police and taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was admitted. His two accomplices managed to escape.
The weapon, a Colt pistol taken from the injured man was handed over to the Waterford police.
Woman killed in Seaforth accident
A 56 year-old woman was killed in a motor vehicle accident on the Seaforth main road in St Thomas last night.
She has been identified as Mildred Duhaney, otherwise called “Miss Ben” of Central York, Seaforth.
The St Thomas police said that at about 9:30 Saturday night, Duhaney was crossing the Seaforth main road when she was hit by a white motor-car which did not stop. She sustained head injuries and was taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
