He’s a winner!
Heather Asphall of the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), presents second place winner in the Institute of Jamaica’s Earth Day Essay Competition, Samuel Chisholm of Ardenne High, with a trophy donated by the JTB at the recently held Earth Day awards ceremony at the Institute’s Discovery Room, Natural History Museum.
The Natural History Division of the Institute, organised the competition in an effort to increase awareness regarding the preservation of the natural environment. The competition targeted students in grades nine to 11 in schools and coincided with Earth Day 2002, which was celebrated on April 22 with a focus on eco-tourism.
Other winners in the competition were Karimah Peart of Ardenne High who won the first place prize and Westwood High’s Camille Earle, third. Westwood High also copped the three top prizes in the poster competition.
Sudanee Brimo won the first place prize, followed by Treena Bailey and Ailyl Brown won second and third places respectively.
The prizes for the winners were sponsored by Air Jamaica, Shell Company, Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica, Jamaica Public Service, JTB and Computer Sales and Service. The Pesticides Control Authority also assisted in promoting the event through ads and information packages.
