Boy, 12, killed in Rose Hall accident
WESTERN BUREAU — Oshane Dennie, a 12 year-old St James student, was yesterday killed on Rose Hall main road after he was hit by a motorcar driven by Curtis Archibald, a 37 year-old Hanover electrician.
Archibald has been charged with manslaughter and is to appear before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court next Wednesday.
The young Lilliput resident was hit by a red Lada motorcar, registered 3765 DF, driven by Archibald, at about 2:30 pm, just across from the Rose Hall Beach Club.
Constable Peter Salkey, the Constabulary Communication Network officer for the parish, said Archibald, who was on his way to Montego Bay, had depressed his brake in an attempt to avoid a collision with a vehicle in front of him.
However, the Constable said, the vehicle in front failed to stop and Archibald’s car swerved to the left and hit the 12 year-old boy, who died on the spot.
The boy’s death brings to 12 the number of traffic fatalities in St James since the start of the year.
Just last Friday British pensioner, Joan Douglas, lost her life when the taxi she was travelling in collided head-on with an International motor truck on Queen’s Drive in Montego Bay. The 69 year-old woman was among three passengers travelling in a Toyota Corolla station wagon taxi, driven by Norwood resident, Patrick Reynolds.
The other passengers and the driver received minor injuries and were admitted to the Cornwall Regional Hospital for treatment.
