AIDS education campaign for St Ann
DISCOVERY BAY, St Ann — The Kaiser Jamaica Bauxite Company in Discovery Bay, St Ann in collaboration with the Ocho Rios region of the Jamaica Information Service will be launching an AIDS educational campaign in June to assist in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the parish.
Kaiser’s public relations officer, Winston Watson, said two groups would be targeted. “The primary audience comprises teenagers and young adults who are susceptible to the disease, and the secondary audience include older community members,” he said.
The main objective of the campaign, Watson said, “is to educate the public, and especially those in the primary audience on AIDS, so as to effect a change in behavioural attitudes.”
Watson said schools, clubs and other community groups within the company’s operating area would be visited by the company and the JIS, and sessions on HIV/AIDS would be held in schools and community centres to help educate the public, and reduce the spread of the virus.
He said that as part of the education campaign, “there will be video shows, talks, discussions, and impromptu drama to demonstrate that learning has taken place.”
