Keeping it green
IN recognition of World Earth Day, Beaches Royal Plantation held a tree planting exercise at the Mansfield Heights Basic School in Ocho Rios to mark this occasion. Members of the hotel environmental club “Earth Watch”, along with returning guests to the resort, were on hand to take part in the exercise.
The hotel is working towards achieving its Green Globe Certification before the end of the year and has implemented programmes to sensitise and educate team members of the resort on environmental policy. Suzanne Millwood environmental manager at the resort, says that the property will be implementing other activities geared at achieving this rating.
The resort currently operates a compost heap on property as well as an oil recycling project where the Recycle Corporation of Jamaica collects the used oil from the property on a monthly basis. The hotel is also working with Friends of the Seas to organize a project for World Ocean and world Coastal Day in June.
