UWI to confer honorary degrees on 11 this year
The Jamaica Observer’s Caribbean correspondent Rickey Singh is among 11 people who will this year be awarded honorary degrees by the University of the West Indies.
Singh is one of the most widely read Caribbean journalists. A Guyanese, he contributes to several regional and international publications and is respected for the quality of his writing and his excellent grasp of regional and international issues.
He will receive the honorary Doctor of Letters (DLitt) at the Cave Hill Campus in Barbados. Also to receive honorary degrees at the Barbados ceremony are Austin Clarke and the Rt Rev Dr Wilfred Wood, who will receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD).
The honorary graduands at the Mona Campus in Jamaica will be Ambassador Don Mills, Professor Ted Chamberlin, Kenneth Ingram, Ernest Ranglin and Emerita Professor Sylvia Wynter. Ambassador Mills will receive the honorary Doctor of Laws degree while the honorary Doctor of Letters degree will be conferred on the remaining four awardees.
The awardees at the St Augustine Campus in Trinidad are George John, Earl Lovelace and Arthur Lok Jack.
