$300,000 bail for man on murder, firearm charges
A Montego Bay man who is facing murder and firearm charges was granted bail in the sum of $300,000 when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court this week.
Brian Stone, a 28 year-old labourer of Cornwall Courts, is charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, shooting with intent and murder.
Allegations are that at about 11:30 pm on July 14 last year, the complainant and a friend were walking in Rosemount when the latter was shot. The injured man was later pronounced dead at hospital.
During the attack, the complainant allegedly saw Stone with a gun in his hand. Stone was reportedly accompanied by another man whom the complainant recognised.
In March this year, the Montego Bay police found Stone at the Cornwall Regional Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. He was registered under a different name.
But on Tuesday, his attorney Roy Fairclough told the court that Stone had registered under a false name because he was shot while buying ganja and he was afraid he would be arrested for purchasing the illegal substance.
In applying for bail, the attorney added that the shooting incident had occurred at night, with the only light coming through a window from a nearby house.
Judge Valerie Stephens then offered bail with the condition that Stone report to the Mount Salem police four times a week.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 8.
