$166 million to repair Clarendon roads
ROCKY POINT, Clarendon — A sum of $166 million is being spent under the National Road Improvement Programme to rehabilitate roads in Clarendon.
Benjamin Waysome, National Works Agency community relations officer for the central region, said that approximately 54 kilometres of roadway in the parish would be improved under the programme between January and June of this year.
He said that within another three weeks, work should begin on the 3.5 kilometre stretch between Rocky Settlement to Rocky Point in southern Clarendon. Waysome noted that repair work on this stretch was delayed to complete necessary drainage work in the community.
He added that improvements to the 5.1 kilometres of roadway in Sevens Road in May Pen was almost complete with double surface dressing now being put on the road surface.
Additionally, work is also progressing on scheduled on the remaining roads at Howard Avenue in May Pen, Race Course to Milk River, Trout Hall to Cave Valley and Sandy River to James Hill stretch, a total of 45.2 kilometres.
Waysome said that the project were being carried out by Build Rite Construction Company under a subcontract.
