Triple manslaughter case against truck driver set for April 22
WESTERN BUREAU — The case against St James truck driver, Darien Moulton whose vehicle allegedly slammed into a car with churchgoers last month, killing three people and injuring five others, could not proceed on Monday because the file was incomplete.
When the case was called before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court clerk of court, Sandy Wong-Small, the postmortem reports were still outstanding and requested another mention date. The new date was set at April 22 and Moulton had his $750,000 bail extended until then.
The 24 year-old accused reportedly collided with a white Toyota Corolla station wagon carrying eight members of the Showers of Blessing Apostolic Church. The group was on the way to a church service in Westmoreland shortly before 7:00 pm on Sunday, March 17.
On reaching the bend at the Awful Gully main road in Cambridge, where Moulton resides, two trucks came hurtling toward them.
Dennis Swaby, who drove the station wagon, was able to avoid collision with the first truck but no sooner had he done so than that second truck, which was said to be driven by Moulton, tore into the car.
Swaby, 32, and his 12 year-old daughter, Tanisha were killed while his nine-year-old daughter Yanique was injured.
Cecile Campbell was the other fatality. She was the wife of the minister of the Showers of Blessing Apostolic Church. The minister and their 29 year-old daughter, Nadine, were among the injured.
