Man injured in Delacree Park shooting wanted in United States, say police
FREDERICK Graham, the 27-year-old man who was shot and injured in what the police said was a shoot-out in Delacree Park, Kingston 11 Monday afternoon, is wanted in the United States for alleged marijuana trafficking and money laundering.
Graham, who goes by the aliases “Aaron Scarborough”, “Malick Richards” and “Anthony Washington”, is wanted in Arizona for possession with intent to distribute marijuana, conspiracy with intent to distribute marijuana and conspiracy to distribute criminal proceeds, the police information arm, the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), said yesterday. It said the Jamaican has been wanted by the authorities in Arizona since 1997.
The CCN said, too, that Graham was a member of a criminal network in the United States, which also involved Kevin Smith, a resident of Anchovy Pathway in Delacree Park who was held by the Jamaica Fugitive Apprehension Team (JFAT) last December.
Meanwhile, the police said that Graham has been charged with illegal possession of firearm following the seizure of an AK47 rifle after Monday’s shooting.
He was also served with a warrant for extradition by the JFAT.
The police said an operation was being carried out in Delacree Park at about 3:00 pm Monday when they came under gunfire from a group of men in the area. The fire was returned and the men ran.
The CCN said that following the shooting, a house in the community was searched and an AK47 rifle and 67 rounds of ammunition were seized. Five men and a woman who were in the house were taken into custody.
The injured man, the CCN said, subsequently identified as Graham, was later held in front of a pharmacy in the area after the police were informed that he had gone to a private hospital for treatment. He was subsequently admitted to hospital under police guard.
The young man’s mother said in a television interview Monday night that her son was not in a shoot-out. “He does not carry a gun,” she said.
The other five persons who were taken into custody Monday were also charged yesterday with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and shooting with intent. They are:
* Mark Baker, 25;
* Tafari Ralston, 20;
* Gregory Harvey, 21, otherwise called Barber;
* Delano Thompson, 19, otherwise called Hylton, all of Delacree Park; and
* Kimone Newland, 21, of Maxfield Avenue, Kingston 13.
