Environment club launched at Parry Town Primary
IN an effort to play their part in protecting and preserving the environment, an Environment Club has been launched at Parry Town Primary. Over 50 students from all grades turned up for the club’s first meeting.
According to Kayon Wallace, public relations manager at Beaches Grande Sport, the resort “is on its way to being green globe certified and we thought that it was a worthwhile initiative to take to the school”.
Melanie Weir, environment officer at the resort, agreed. “It is very important that we start with the children. They are more receptive and they are the leaders of tomorrow. Adults tend to be more set in their ways and are not as open to change. Launching the Environment Club at Parry Town is one of the ways we can take the knowledge to the community.”
Before the club was launched, the school already had water and litter wardens in place. However, with the new initiative, more students will be educated in a more comprehensive manner about the importance of the environment and the role they play in protecting it.
Each month the members of the club will be taken on an educational environment tour, which will further enhance their knowledge.
The club is headed by Grade Three teacher, Sharlene Bailey.
