75 cops promoted
POLICE Commissioner Francis Forbes yesterday announced the promotion of 75 policemen and women effective on April 1.
The promotions saw a senior superintendent moving up to the rank to assistant commissioner and three superintendents elevated to the position of senior superintendent.
Principal of the Police Staff College in Twickenham Park, St Catherine, Senior Superintendent Novelette Grant has been made an assistant commissioner, while superintendents Donald Pusey, Owen Ellington and Lola Evans have been promoted to senior superintendents.
Pusey, a tough crime fighter who was second in command of the Crime Management Unit (CMU), was last week transferred to head the Area 4 Headquarters.
Police sources said Area 4, which encompasses the divisions of Kingston Central, Eastern Kingston, West Kingston and St Andrew South (Hunts Bay) is the area with the highest crime rate in Jamaica. Crime figures for the area were not immediately available last night.
Pusey succeeds Senior Superintendent Denver Henry who is on protracted sick leave.
Head of the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) Deputy Superintendent James Forbes, is among 10 promoted to superintendent and Inspector Cornwall “Bigga” Ford is among the 15 inspectors who have been made deputy superintendents.
Sonia James of the CCN is among the 43 sergeants promoted to inspector.
