Negril man on the run
WESTERN BUREAU — Thirty-one year-old contractor, Glen Broomfield of Red Ground, Negril, is being sought by the Westmoreland police for questioning about Tuesday’s murder of 26 year-old Richard Clayton.
According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) liaison officer for Westmoreland, Sergeant Alva Douglas, at about 5:00 pm on Tuesday, Clayton and Broomfield were involved in an argument on the premises of the BET resort in Negril. The dispute later resulted in a fight.
Sergeant Douglas said that Clayton was leaving the property after the fight when he reportedly kicked a bicycle belonging to Broomfield.
The police said Clayton was chased and held by Broomfield who allegedly used a knife to stab him in the chest. Broomfield, it is said, fled the scene on the bicycle.
Clayton was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
Clayton’s death brings to seven, the number of persons killed violently in the parish since the start of the year.
Last year, the parish recorded 40 murders in what the police said was the highest since 1980.
