Guard shot dead at pharmacy
A security guard was yesterday shot dead while on duty at the New World Pharmacy on Molynes Road in Kingston.
A police spokesperson told the Observer last night that at about 3:50 pm the guard, Derrick Weir, of Moreton Park in Kingston 10, was on duty at the pharmacy. The two men entered the pharmacy, ordered some items, then pulled handguns, robbed the cashier of $30,000 in cash and other items after which they shot the guard in his abdomen and took his .38 Taurus revolver, serial number NE 24203.
Weir was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he died at about 6:20 in the evening.
The men escaped on a motorcycle.
