Browns Hall man charged with illegal firearm
Mark Francis, otherwise called “Spanner” of Browns Hall in St Catherine, was on Sunday arrested for breaches of the Firearms Act following the seizure of a gun in the community.
Francis, 28, has been charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported that between the hours of 5:30 am and 8:30 am Sunday, members of the Browns Hall Police Station carried out an operation in the district. Premises occupied by Francis was searched and a Ruger .357 Magnum revolver, serial # 10799587 with one round of ammunition, was allegedly found in his possession. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
Woman killed by car on Portmore Causeway
Joyce Gordon, 48, of St Johns Road, Spanish Town, St Catherine died Sunday night as a result of injuries she sustained in a motor vehicle accident on the Portmore Causeway in the vicinity of the fishing village in St Catherine earlier in the day.
The CCN reported that at about 3:30 pm, a white Suzuki Alto motor car, registered 6027 BF, driven by Kamilea Williams, was travelling easterly along the Causeway when on reaching the fishing village, Gordon, who was crossing the road, was hit. She sustained multiple injuries and was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where she later died.
Man shot dead in Water Works
Walter McGrowder, 34, was shot dead by a gunman at his home in Water Works, Westmoreland Sunday night.
The police reported that at about 8:45 pm, McGrowder was at home when two men entered the premises. McGrowder reportedly called out to the men and one of them pulled a gun and opened fire, hitting him in the chest. He died on the spot. The body was removed to the morgue for post-ortem examination.
