Harper apologises to TVJ cameraman after issuing threat
FORMER Deputy Commissioner of Police Leslie Harper, yesterday apologised to a television cameraman he had threatened during the mid-morning coffee break at the West Kingston commission of inquiry.
Harper, who is also a lawyer, was angry that Television Jamaica (TVJ), to which the cameraman, Gareth Daley, is employed, aired video footage of him sleeping during a sitting of the inquiry.
Harper sought out the cameraman during the break and accused him of airing malicious footage.
“If it happens again, then someone will be (expletive deleted) hurt,” Harper told Daley.
Following discussions between members of the press, who were covering the commission, mediated by attorneys Linton Walters, counsel for the People’s National Party, and Norma Linton, counsel for the police, Harper apologised to Daley, first verbally and then in writing.
In his apology Harper said he did not mean any harm to the cameraman and hoped that the relationship with members of the media was not damaged.
