Truck laden with corned beef, ketchup robbed
A truck contracted to Grace, Kennedy & Co Ltd was allegedly held up yesterday by two men on the Mandela Highway in Kingston and robbed of goods it was carrying.
The truck, the Constabulary Communication Network reported last night, was reportedly laden with 525 cases of 12-oz corned beef and 300 cases of 12-oz ketchup.
The police said that at about 7:30 am, the driver of the truck reportedly picked up his sideman and another man, who was not known to him, on Marcus Garvey Drive, in the vicinity of Tinson Pen. “On reaching the Asphalt Paving Company on the Mandela Highway, the sideman reportedly pulled a gun and ordered the driver to stop,” the police reported.
The two men allegedly tied up the driver and took him in a pick-up to the Caymanas Golf Club where they left him.
He reportedly managed to free himself and made a report to the Central Village police.
The truck, minus the goods was later recovered on Bay Farm Road in Kingston 11.
