Man shot dead in Windsor Heights
David Miller, 27, of Windsor Heights in Central Village, St Catherine was shot and killed by gunmen in the community early yesterday morning.
The police reported that at about 6:44 am, explosions were heard in the area. On investigation, Miller was reportedly seen at the intersection of Windsor Heights Road and Anthony Spaulding Boulevard suffering from gunshot wounds to the head, and back. He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Prisoner escapes from Tamarind Farm
The police yesterday launched a search for a prisoner who escaped from the Tamarind Farm Correctional Centre in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
The prisoner, Michael Forbes, 28, otherwise called “Lassie” of Glendevon in Montego Bay, St James was discovered missing at about 6:30 yesterday morning.
The police said that initial investigation revealed that Forbes had been assisted over the perimeter fencing by another inmate. He then reportedly made his escape in a waiting Toyota Corolla motorcar.
Forbes was convicted in the Montego Bay Gun Court on June last year and was serving an eight-year sentence for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
Dead motorcyclist identified
The Morant Bay police said yesterday that the man who was involved in a motor vehicle accident and died in the Princess Margaret Hospital on Friday has been identified as Dwayne Francis, 22, of Harbour Pen Road, Port Morant, St Thomas.
Francis and Ryan Davis, 19, were aboard a Honda F2 motor cycle travelling along the Needham Pen main road in the parish when it reportedly developed mechanical problems and crashed into a tree. Both persons sustained injuries and were taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital where they were admitted, Francis on Friday.
The Morant Bay police say that no one had reported the accident to the police.
However, the Constabulary Communication Network said yesterday that a policeman who was on duty Monday reportedly heard persons talking about an accident. He subsequently investigated the matter and found out that an accident had actually taken place.
The police have, in the meantime, appealed to citizens that when accidents like that happened they should report the matter to the police.
Woman among five on gun charges
Five persons, including a woman were Monday arrested for breaches of the Firearms Act following a shoot-out between the police and gunmen at Skyline Drive, Kingston 6.
Charged with shooting with intent illegal possession of firearm, ammunition and explosive are:
* Durrant Brissette, 17, otherwise called “Monkey Man” of Savage Pen, Gordon Town, St Andrew;
* Everol Williams, 35, otherwise called “Eva” of Skyline Drive, Kingston 6;
* Mark Allen, 27, of Cocking Hill, Guys Hill, St Catherine;
* Patrick Forbes, 42, of Harbour Road, Rockfort, Kingston 2,
* Pauline Campbell, 33, of Windward Way, Kingston 2.
The police said that at about 9:00 am Monday, a police party carried out an operation in the Skyline Drive area. During the operation a group of armed men, believed to be members of the Joel Andem gang, were seen at a guesthouse at Skyline Drive. On the approach of the police the men opened fire at them. The fire was returned and some of the men escaped in bushes while the others along with the woman were held on the premises.
The premises was searched and a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver, serial # BDA 5906 with thirty .38 cartridges, sixty-six 9mm cartridges, five 12 gauge cartridges and one stick of dynamite were seized.
