Briton on ganja charge
MICHAEL Belgrave, 30, of Broxley Meadows, Leadgrave, London, England was Saturday arrested for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act at the Sangster International Airport in Kingston.
The James police reported yesterday that at about 6:30 pm Saturday, Belgrave was being processed for departure on a flight destined to London, when a sniffer-dog alerted security personnel to a suitcase he had checked in. Following a search, ganja weighing 3.3 kilograms (seven pounds) was found. Belgrave was subsequently arrested and charged.
He is scheduled to appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court today.

And the police also reported yesterday that two men were also arrested for ganja during a police operation on the Bogue main road, Montego Bay, St James Saturday.
Charged with possession of, dealing in and trafficking ganja are 38 year-old Lloyd Lemonious of Clarks Town, and Adrian Brown, 28, of Brompton district, both in Trelawny.
According to the police, at about 5:00 pm, a motorcar in which the two were travelling, was stopped and searched and a plastic bag containing ganja weighing 4.54 kilograms (10 lb) was found on the back seat of the car. Both men were subsequently arrested and charged.
Norwood youth stabbed to death
WESTERN BUREAU — Eighteen year-old Miguel Scarlett, alias “Quelle” of Norwood in St James, was on Saturday night stabbed to death during a dispute with a group of men in Montego Bay.
According to the police, at about 9:00 pm, Scarlett, who was believed to be of unsound mind, was reportedly walking along St James’ Street, when an argument developed between himself and the men.
During the altercation, one of the men allegedly pulled a knife from his waist band and stabbed Scarlett in the chest.
Scarlett reportedly ran to William Street, about three chains away, where he collapsed.
He was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay where he died while undergoing treatment.
The men, the police said, fled the scene and are being sought by detectives from Montego Bay who are investigating.
Miguel’s death brings to six, the number of murders committed in the parish of St James since the start of the year.
Last year, 74 persons were murdered in the parish.
