Pedestrian killed in traffic accident
Lascelles Burnett, 54, of Waterloo Close, Spanish Town, was killed in a motor vehicle accident on the Greendale main road in the old capital Monday.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported that at 5:40 am, Burnett was reportedly crossing the road in the vicinity of Kingston Bridge when he was hit by a Toyota Hiace minibus. He sustained injuries and died on the spot.
Man’s body found in septic pit
The body of a man, identified as that of Coleman Leroy Brown, 44, was on Monday taken from a septic pit in Rosewell district, Clarendon.
The CCN reported that at about 1:00 pm, residents of the area saw a trail of blood at the gate of Brown’s house. The trail, the police said, led them to a septic pit where the gruesome find was made. The May Pen police were summoned and with the assistance of the fire brigade and residents, the body, which had several stab wounds to the left side, was removed from the pit.
The May Pen police, who are investigating, say that the house was ransacked and several items were missing.
Man shot dead at Hellshire
The Portmore police in St Catherine are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man identified only as ‘Dean’ at Hellshire beach in the parish on Monday.
The police said that at about 8:42 pm, Dean was at a shop on the beach which he operated, when he reportedly heard someone calling him. He went outside to check and was confronted by two gunmen who opened fire hitting him. He died on the spot.
St Thomas fire leaves five homeless
Five persons were left homeless after fire gutted a six-apartment house in St Thomas on Monday. No one was injured in the blaze.
The CCN’s St Thomas liaison officer reported that about 2:50 pm, fire was seen coming from a house in Cedar Valley district by neighbours who summoned the fire brigade. One unit from the Morant Bay Fire Department put out the blaze. Loss is estimated at $800,000 and the house was not insured.
