Dancehall Queen 2001 for Pier One
THE fifth staging of the Dancehall Queen contest takes place at Pier One tonight, and the promoters are again promising a night filled with fun and excitement.
Last year, more than 5,000 patrons were in attendance and this year the promoters are expecting another full house.
As usual, a number of attractive prizes are in store for the contestants.
The Dancehall Queen will receive a cash prize of $35,000, while the 1st and 2nd runners-up will get $20,000 and $12,000 respectively.
Stone Love and Pure Playazz will provide the music along with Innocent Sound, War Lord, INXS and Underground.
Guest models appearing include the Hard Copy Cover Girls, Olympic Models, Guns and Roses and Playazz Girls.
St John’s Methodist Church Fundraiser
THE St. John’s Methodist Church, in association with the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort Singers, presents a fundraising dinner at the Holiday Inn Sunspree resort tonight at 7:30 pm.
The function is being staged under the patronage of the Clarence Nelson, Custos Rotulorum of St James.
Proceeds will go toward a number of church projects.
Contribution is $1,500 per person and the gate prizes are: weekend for two at the Bay View Villa, Port Antonio and weekend for two at a Sandals Resort in Jamaica.
Coconut Festival
The third staging of Coconut festival gets off the ground today at Ellis Piece, Lethe in Hanover and ends tomorrow.
This year the show will showcase coconut craft, coconut husking competition, demonstrations on the making of coconut pastry as well as a folk segment.
Congrats Terry-Ann
THIS column would like to congratulate Terry-Ann Tucker who was recently selected as the National Festival Queen for 2001.
Terry-Ann who represented the parish of Trelawny at the National final, was also adjudged the most culturally aware contestant.
Thanks Terry-Ann for bringing the crown to the West. You have done us proud.
