Festival Queens crowned
THE Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s Parish Festival Queens for Western Jamaica were chosen last weekend at various locations across the parishes.
In Westmoreland, Stacy-Ann Lawrence was selected as the 2001 Festival Queen, Annesha Morris was the first runner-up, while third place went to Trevina Whyte.
Meanwhile, Trelawny’s Queen is 18-year-old Terry-Ann Tucker. She won from a field of five. Nadine Mattis and Alecia Sinclair were the runners-up.
In St James, I9-year-old Nattecia Bohardsingh was named the Festival Queen for the parish, while Henrietta Richards placed second and Taneisha Farquharson third.
Linda Hudson, a 19-year-old law student, was chosen as Hanover’s Queen.
The Queens will represent their parishes at the National Festival Queen contest to be held in Kingston later this month.
Miss Jamaica World Cornwall selected
TAMARA Pinnock, 22 is the new Miss Jamaica World Cornwall. She was selected on Sunday at the Caribbean Showplace, in Ironshore.
Lois Senior placed second, while Nekesha Gayle copped third place. Best smile went to Camile Wilson, while Nekesha Gayle was adjudged to have the best figure.
‘Spirit’ for Half Moon Conference Centre
Father Ho Lung and Friends present a concert of songs to celebrate the life of Christ, at the Half Moon Conference Centre, in Montego Bay tonight. There will be two shows, one at 4:30 pm and the other at 8:30 pm.
Dubbed ‘Spirit’, the concert features the voices of Wendy Thames, Darcy Tulloch, William Adamson and Andrew Lawrence. Admission is $500 for adults and $250 for children.
Fun-filled summer programmes
The summer holiday is upon us, and a number of parents are busy making plans to keep their children occupied for the long holiday.
As usual, a number of activities have been tailored to meet the needs of students across western Jamaica. These include a Summer Swim Camp at the Reading Reef Club Hotel from July 9 to August 2. Apart from swimming, other activities planned include dance, music, drama and football.
Then there is the Mind Centre Study Programmme, to be held at 16 East Street in Montego Bay. This is geared towards high school and university students.
The UWI School of Continuing Studies is also staging a summer school, dealing with the fundamentals of computer. This is geared towards children between the ages seven to 15. And if you want to let the kids get some lessons in computer repairs and upgrading, there is a course available at the Montego Bay High School from July 16 to 20.
Caribbean Beach Park is also staging fun days for the kids every Saturday as of July 7. This runs until the end of August.
