In the Kitchen with 3 Little Cooks
The children are now on vacation. It’s easy to tell you see. The fridge is opened several hundred times, and yet there’s never anything to eat. What to do?
Exhale slowly and just be prepared this long hot summer to make several trips to the supermarket ostensibly to stock up and you’ll still run the risk of being told that there’s nothing to eat.
Thursday Food called up our young soon-to-be celebrity chef Emma Crichton. Who many met for the first time at the Jamaica Observer “Table Talk Food Awards,” decked out in her chef ensemble compliments of Leila at Toscanini. We asked Emma to whip up some kidz stuff with her assistants Christina Lechler and Blaise Benjamin. This was no ‘sweat’ since Emma loves to cook and bake and has been doing this for as long as she can recall. Eating out is something also loved by Emma who lists Toscanini here in Jamaica as well as the Napa Valley’s celebrated French Laundry (where she was fortunate enough to be allowed in the kitchen to observe) as two of her favourite places to eat.
Christina says her mother (Jacqueline) who loves to bake influenced her strong attachment to baking. These close friends both plan on becoming surgeons and having a bakery at the same complex. Blaise with a wonderful smile, lists his accomplishments as eggs, and sausages, hot dogs and hamburgers.
In the kitchen we went, and enjoyed the wonderful mess, Christina’s constant tasting or rather licking, Jane’s (Emma’s mum) laughter and great organisational skills. These kids have fun in the kitchen and are extremely knowledgeable about food. Great news for us here at the Foodpage… even better news is that they are now official Thursday food members and would like other kids like themselves to exchange recipes and or menu ideas. Enjoy these delicious menu options.
