Festival Queen Coronation shows
The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s Parish Festival Queens for Western Jamaica will be selected this weekend.
Coronation shows will be held in St James, Hanover and Westmoreland tonight, while Trelawny will have its turn tomorrow night.
In St James, seven girls will vie for the crown of ‘Miss St James Festival Queen’ at the Agua Sol Theme Park in Montego Bay. Meanwhile, Hanover’s show is slated for the Rusea’s High School Auditorium, where eight contestants will face the judges. Over in Westmoreland, another nine girls will vie for the crown at the Mannings High School. And come tomorrow night, Trelawny’s Queen will be chosen at the Ballroom of the Trelawny Beach and Fun Resort Hotel from a field of five contestants. All shows begin at 8 pm.
‘Girls Rush’ For Pier One Tonight
Thousands of patrons, mostly girls, are expected to flock Pier One in Montego Bay tonight as the very popular vocal group ARP, and comical deejay Professor Nuts, take centre -stage in a production called ‘Girls Rush’.
The show, which is being staged by Le Koo Koo promotions, will also feature Mega Banton, Snoopy, Fremo Dignitary and Fire Lion. Music will be provided by Kangol International, INXS and Rebel T.
Goddy Goddy for Fund-raiser
Gospel heavyweight Goddy Goddy, and a number of prominent gospel artistes will perform tonight at the William Knibb High School’s auditorium in Trelawny. The show is being staged in an effort to raise funds to assist the programmes of the National Parent Advocacy group’s Trelawny Chapter.
The fun begins at 7:30 pm, and will also feature The Heavenly Brothers, God’s Creation, Marsha Daniels and Winston Barnett. The singing Willows, and the Visionaries from Falmouth will also perform at the concert.
Miss Jamaica World ‘Cornwall’ finals for Caribbean Showplace
The grand coronation show for the Miss Jamaica World Cornwall 2001 takes place tomorrow night at the Caribbean Showplace, Ironshore starting at 7:30 pm.
Twenty-two beautiful girls will be on show, as they vie for a number of prizes and a chance to represent the region in the Miss Jamaica World beauty contest slated for September.
MoBay High PTA & PSA Barbe-fair
The Montego Bay High School Parent/Teachers’ Association and Past Students’ Association present a grand barbe-fair next Friday. The event, which will be held on the school grounds, is slated to begin at 12:00 noon. Activities include a fashion show, dance competition, face painting, and horror house. Tickets are $250 each, and are now available at the school. Proceeds are in aid of the upgrading of the schools’ facilities.
