Mt Alvernia, Sav in Western Prep school football titles
MOUNT Alvernia and Savanna-la-mar won the girls and boys finals respectively, in the fifth renewal of the 12 and Under Western Prep schools football competitions on Friday at Jarrett Park.
Mount Alvernia clipped traditional rivals Montego Bay 2-1 in the girls final, while Savanna-la-mar edged Paradise 1-0 in a Westmoreland clash in the boys final.
St James took the third place play-offs in both the boys and girls competitions. Tiffany Parkinson was the top goal-scorer in the girls competition with 21 goals, while Dexter Gooden of St James took the respective award in the boys event with the same number of strikes.
The most valuable players were Shauna-Marie Hendricks of Mt Alvernia in the girls competition, and Kahlil Green of Savanna-la-mar in the boys event.
In the semi-finals, Mt Alvernia blanked MoBay Christian Academy 3-0, while Montego Bay outscored St James 3-1 in girls action. In the boys competition, Savanna-la-mar clipped St James 2-1, while Paradise beat Unity 5-3 on a penalty shoot-out after both teams had played to a draw.
