MONTEGO BAY, St James-
Andre Fullwood, a Montego Bay Community College student, was on Monday fined $24,000 or three months and given a six month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months after pleading guilty to ganja charges in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court. The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to possession of ganja and dealing in ganja after 5lbs of the drug was found in a room he said he occupied in his family home in Farm Heights, on August 5. Police said they were acting on information when they picked him up and took him to his home during which time he asked that they show him a search warrant. One was procured and the weed found in a black plastic bag.
Attorney-at-law Adrian Dayes, who represented Fullwood in court, said his client, who was stopped by a police party and taken to his home, did not own the weed but was keeping it for a friend who had given him the bag three days earlier.
Dayes admitted his client knew what was in the bag and said he had brought shame and inconvenience on himself. Fullwood was fined $8,000 or three months for possession and $16,000 or three months for dealing. He was also sentenced to six months on each count and suspended for 18 months.
