MONTEGO BAY, St James-
Gavin McNeil, the civilian charged along with two policemen was remanded in custody until April 17 when his attorney is to renew bail application on his behalf. The bail application was aborted in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday after attorney Stacey-Ann Young complained that she did not have all the statements that the prosecution had. Young denied her client was involved in the March 8th incident when two men were robbed of over $80,000 they had just got at a remittance service outlet on Gloucester Avenue along with cell phones. Anthony Harris and Ithream Shuriah, both police officers, were also arrested and charged and were denied bail when they appeared in court last Friday and are to return on May 5 when trial is expected to start. The prosecution is alleging that the 25-year-old McNeil was seen wearing a cap marked 'Police' when he was held and was the driver of the car that was used by the men to get away. The allegations are that the two complainants had just left the remittance service and were in a taxi when the three accused drove up in a grEyish silver Toyota Corolla and told them to get out of the taxi. It was heard that Shuriah who was on suspension at the time asked one of the complainants for an ID card while Harris searched the men and took a total of just over $83,000 from them. It was heard that while they were searching the men, a district constable who knew the police officers drove up in a blue Toyota and made an alarm. The men fled, the court heard, and the district constable contacted Area One Control and the men were later seen in a white Corolla in the Sewell Avenue area at which time Harris ran but was chased and held. The court heard that when he was held, $80,000 was found in the crotch of Harris' pants. Shuriah was later seen in the Albion area bending over a car with the bonnet open and when he was held he was found with a set of car keys that was used to open and start a silver-grey Corolla that was parked nearby. The court also heard that a man who was standing by the car with the bonnet opened, told the police he did not know Shuriah, who he said had just walked up and started looking under the bonnet.
