Answer your phone, Omar!
Wanted man's grandmother begs him to come in

Thursday, March 27, 2008

Omar Reid

SOMERTON, St James-

Daisy Reid, grandmother to 30-year-old Omar Reid, whom the police are seeking to assist their investigation into the recent homicide of 61-year-old British nurse, Barabara Jayne Scott, is begging him to come forward, even as the rural community expresses mixed reactions over the gruesome incident.

" Me have him (Omar Reid) number but from the other day me can't get him. Me only a get him voicemail. Me call, me call, me call. If me would a call him and get him me woulda tell him to go and give up himself. But me naw get no communication from him me don't know which part a world him me just worried," a distraught Daisy Reid, Omar's grandmother told the Observer West. "Nobody don't know him as that type of person it come in as a shock. Me (blood) pressure run up".

Like many in Somerton, Reid finds it very hard to accept that her grandson carried out such a dastardly act.
" Everybody in the district is surprised to hear about it-if him really do it. Omar is so jolly and he especially loves to play with the children. Him jolly with children," a female Somerton resident pointed out to the Observer West.

On the other hand the residents also had very kind words for Scott.

"Nice woman. Barbara is such a kind and loving individual who loves kids and who loves to dance. She would always take the children to beach in her jeep," one resident pointed out.

The quiet rustic community was traumatised on Good Friday when Scott's body was fished from a sewerage pit at her home, following a seven-day search .

It took the police, who were assisted by firefighters, more than seven hours to remove the corpse from the concrete-sealed pit, after receiving intelligence that she had been dumped there.

An on-the-spot post-mortem performed by government pathologist, Dr Murari Sorangi, showed that the body had a fractured skull, believed to be caused by a blunt instrument.
Scott, 61, had been in Jamaica since January and was staying in this rural community. She went missing Friday, March 14.

The police subsequently stepped up their search for Scott's alleged lover, Reid, a labourer.

Reid, the police said, has not been seen since Scott's disappearance.

"It is clear that there was an established relationship between Omar Reid and the deceased woman, Miss Barbara Scott. She has been in Jamaica for over 20 years. We are still appealing with Mr Reid to come in because we still need to speak to him," said Superintendent Steve McGregor, head of the St James police told reporters on Good Friday.

He also appealed to persons who may have information about Reid's whereabouts to pass it on to the police.

The police said that Reid, who is of a dark complexion and about six feet, four inches tall, is missing a few front teeth.
