Homeless 'fondler' denied bail
PAUL A REID, Observer West Writer
Thursday, January 17, 2008

MONTEGO BAY, St James

An 18 year-old homeless man who is alleged to have fondled a seven- year-old girl was denied bail when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Gawayne Barnett, who told the court he left Portmore searching for an aunt after his mother was confined to an infirmary, has been charged with indecent assault.

Allegations are that the child was playing in a yard in early December where he was when he lifted up her skirt and fondled her.

The child's mother noticed secretions on her underwear a few days later and took her to the doctor when it was discovered she had been molested.

The child was questioned and started crying and told her mother what happened and also that she had been threatened.

Barnett was held and tied to a tree and the police called in.
