Police to charge 8 in donkey affair
Horace Hines
Thursday, April 19, 2007

LITTLE LONDON, Westmoreland

The police expect to charge eight men who were taken into custody after being caught with seven stolen donkeys Tuesday night with larceny today.

Reports are that at about 9:00 pm on Tuesday, the police stopped a truck owned by the Jamaica Livestock Association along the New Hope main road in the parish. On observing the donkeys inside the vehicle, the police became suspicious.

The men, however, told the police that they had bought the animals for resale to farmers in Mandeville.
The men were taken into custody after they failed to explain where they had bought the donkeys.

Up to late yesterday evening, the men who were held were still not yet charged. But a highly placed source at the Little London Police Station indicated that they could be charged as soon as today, as two persons have claimed ownership of the animals.
