Majesty Gardens look to cement place in NBL
Saturday, November 07, 2009
As teams jostle for a top-five finish and a place in the Flow/National Basketball League (NBL) Southern conference final, the race intensifies as the regular season winds down.
Today, Majesty Gardens should maintain their place at the top when they play Selassie Gardens, while Braves Chiefs will go for their second win in three matches against the unpredictable Blazing Panthers.
Tomorrow, Urban Knights and Tivoli will seek to keep track of Majesty Gardens when they play Portmore Flames and Arnett Rockers, respectively.
Both teams will be looking for full points as Tivoli are expected to get the better of a struggling Arnett team, while the Knights may look to punish a hard-fighting Portmore Flames as they try to rebound from their demoralising defeat to the Braves Chiefs last weekend.
In the west, there's a three-way tie between Granville Jaguars, Catherine Hall All-Stars and Hoopers, all with 12 points from seven games.
Goyan Malcolm and the All-Stars will start favourites against lowly Sav-la-Mar Hawks today, while tomorrow, Jaguars should beat Avalanche and rejoin All-Stars on 14 points. Hoopers should beat Hawks, in a rescheduled game.
If all three teams remain tied after this weekend, the team with the best offensive record will get the conference final spots.
In the Central region, it's a similar situation, with Nain MoreUps, Manchester Pythons and Team AHHH all tied on 11 points.
The Pythons look the best bet for the final, as they are expected to beat Spalding Hippers today at Church of the Nazarene. Hippers have lost six straight.
However, the interesting clash will be between Team AHHH and Nain tomorrow at Belair.
Team AHHH need to win, as Nain and Pythons have a rescheduled game in hand to play next weekend.
With Pure Playaz (14 points) already through to the Eastern Conference final, Morant Bay (10 points) look to join them when they play Yallahs tomorrow at Bath.
Morant Bay can finish with no less than 11 points, while their counterparts cannot surpass 10 points.
Today, Buff Bay Archers entertain Portland Pistons at Buff Bay.
All speculations aside, the final week of the Flow/NBL will send 19 teams packing and the other eight into the respective conference finals, starting next Saturday, followed by the national playoffs starting November 24.
