Waterhouse positioned themselves to climb into the top half of the Digicel Premier League (DPL) table as they came from behind to beat bottom-placed August Town 4-1 at Drewsland on Sunday.

Waterhouse earlier lost their first five matches in the Premiership.

Second-half goals from Kevin Lamey (49th and 87th) and Irvino English (62nd penalty and 84th) rescued the Waterhouse effort to give them their fourth win from their last five games after August Town, who had a player sent off in the second half, had set them back with a goal by Jermaine Simpson in the sixth minute. Waterhouse had lost their first five games.

The game opened at a hectic pace and Waterhouse, who are gradually getting into stride, had no answer to a fast-moving August Town team which forced coach Geoffrey Maxwell to make an early change in order to temper the speed of play.

He pulled out a wayward Hugh Howell in defensive midfield after 17 minutes and replaced him with the more patient Vincent Earle, but it made little difference as Earle, who is a slow player, failed to match the speed of his opponents and was promptly replaced by coach Maxwell for the second session after he seemed to pick up a limiting injury after he was felled by Mervin Miller four minutes after the resumption.

Miller was later expelled by referee Karl Tyrell for violent conduct.

Now down to only 10 players August Town reverted to a more defensive ploy, but this only served to aid their hosts as the visitors lacked the defensive quality to keep the Waterhouse attacking force in check, and it was no surprise when Lamey brought the teams level.

Following a team talk with the coaching staff the Waterhouse players returned with greater urgency and 17 minutes into the second half they went ahead from the penalty spot. Anderson was brought down in the area by the August Town skipper Dwight Morgan and English stepped up to make the score 2-1. From then on it was free sailing.

Maxwell was thoroughly satisfied with the result but not with the manner in which it was achieved: "Yes we scored four goals in the second half, hit the crossbar a couple of times and showed our dominance for the better part of the half but our discipline was poor, the first half in particular and even to some extent in the second half after we took the lead. One never knows had August Town been at full strength the final result probably could have been different. It is the type of luxury we can ill afford against stronger opposition," Maxwell conceded.

His counterpart Calvert Fitzgerald was pretty peeved by the quality of the officiating, saying: "I thought we played a good first half and were leading 1-0, but got an unfortunate red card. For the life of me both players came with their knees up and it seems as if nothing is going our way. The officiating and everything is just going against us. We just have to go back and see if we could break the spell."
