Jackie Bell KO kicks off today

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

The Claro/KSAFA Jackie Bell KO competition kicks off today with Meadforest facing Seaview Gardens at the Maverley playing field at 3:00 pm.

The tournament, which will see the champions collecting $350,000 and runners-up pocketing $200,000, continues tomorrow with four games. Constant Spring will be at home to Pembroke Hall, Swallowfield and Greenwich Town will face off at Stadium East, Red Hills tackle Real Mona at Buttercup Park and Olympic Gardens welcome ISCF FC to Cling Cling Oval. All games are scheduled for a 3:00 pm start.

Played among teams from the football association of Kingston and St Andrew, the annual knockout tournament was named in honour of the late Winthorp 'Jackie' Bell, a football aficionado, who along with close friend Dennis Ziadie, perished in a bus crash as they attended the 1986 World Cup Finals in Mexico.

Started in 1987, the Jackie Bell KO embraces all KSAFA-affiliated clubs that participate in the Digicel Premier League (DPL), KSAFA Super, Major and Syd Bartlett leagues.

KSAFA's six DPL contenders - Harbour View, Tivoli Gardens, Arnett Gardens, Waterhouse, August Town and Boys' Town - will bow into action in the later rounds.

Winners and runners-up will automatically book places in the national knockout tournament, the Flow Champions Cup.

Tivoli Gardens are the defending Jackie Bell KO champions.
