JFF hands down heavy fines on St Georges, Portmore

The disciplinary tribunal of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) handed down heavy fines on two premier league clubs - St Georges SC and Portmore United - at a meeting last week Tuesday.

Both clubs were fined $100,000 each for their roles in missile-throwing incidents.

St Georges were cited for a breach of Article 28.8 (U-21 Infringements or Incidents at Matches) during an Under-21 match between the home team and Sporting Central Academy at Lynch Park on October 16. According to the report, a spectator threw a bottle towards the match officials.

Portmore, on the other hand, were sanctioned for a breach of Article 68.3 (Disorderliness at Matches/Inciting Hatred and Violence) following a missile-throwing incident during a Digicel Premier League (DPL) match with Waterhouse FC at Ferdie Neita Park on October 18. The report stated that a bottle was thrown at the referee after he awarded a penalty to the Portmore team.

Coaches Bradley Stewart of DPL team Rivoli United and Perry Bartley of Boys' Town's Under-21 side were fined $5000 each forbreach of Article 55.1 (Offensive Behaviour) for verbally abusing referees.

Perry was summoned for his actions on October 16, during and Under-21 match against Tivoli Gardens at the Edward Seaga Stadium. He was accused of verbally abusing an assistant referee. He was also banned for two games.

Stewart was reported to have spouted abuse at an assistant referee during a DPL match between his team and Harbour View FC at the Spanish Town Prison Oval on October 21, 2009. He was also banned for one match.

Also slapped with a $2,000 fine and suspended for three games (already served) is Renwich Parkinson of Village United. He was found in breach of Article 28.3.5 (U-21 nfringements or Incidents at Matches).

Parkinson was reported to have used insulting and abusive language to his teammates during an Under-21 match with Village United and Rivoli United FC at the Elliston Wakeland Centre on October 2, 2009.

Parkinson's teammate, Lance Laing was fined $1,000 and suspended for two matches for breaching Article 28.4 (U21 Infringements or Incidents at Matches). Laing was reported to have used foul and abusive language to an assistant referee during an Under-21 League game between Tivoli Gardens FC and Village United FC at the Edward Seaga Stadium on October 23, 2009.
